How it works

Pallet positions = peak pallets + growth. Floor spots = positions ÷ levels. Net area = spots × pallet footprint (plus a few inches of clearance). Total square feet = net area ÷ (1 − aisle share). In public warehousing you pay per pallet position; for leased space you pay per square foot — see the warehouse cost guide and the cost calculator.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a standard pallet?

In the U.S. the most common pallet (GMA) is 48 × 40 inches, about 13.3 sq ft. Change the size if yours is different.

Why is the floor space so much bigger than the pallets?

Warehouses need aisles for forklifts, dock areas and offices. In a racked warehouse, aisles and docks often take 40–60% of the floor.

How high can pallets be stacked?

In pallet racking, often 3–5 levels depending on ceiling height (clear height) and pallet weight. Floor-stacked pallets usually go 1–3 high if the goods can bear it.
